What was once part of Pentridge Prison is now a socially inclusive, locally focused, bright and friendly cafe.
There’s an atrium-like courtyard, which used to be the gloomy staff entrance to the prison. The founders repurposed 120-year-old doors from the prison into tables and rescued light fixtures from the laundry.
The big menu covers a couple of burgers; hotcakes; vegan “bacon” (made with soy and mushroom protein, and other amazing options to make your mouth water.
The Glass Den is vegan, vegetarian, kid and dog-friendly.
Cakes are by The Compassionate Kitchen in Sydenham. Most of the Glass Den’s suppliers are socially conscious or social-enterprise organisations.
Coffee is St Ali, there are Good Brew kombucha and a juice and smoothie menu.
A highlight is an iced coffee, a large ball of frozen espresso to which drinkers add their warmed milk of choice.
